Bill Nelson: Outdoorsman Extraordinaire

Bill Nelson: Outdoorsman Extraordinaire

Compiled by Sherm Blom

This biography of the renowned trapper-writer-outdoorsman Bill Nelson, compiled by Sherm Blom and issued in cooperation with Stoneydale Press, has been 30 years in the making. This new book allows you to learn the story behind this amazing man, Bill Nelson, who made his living in the outdoors throughout his life, and shared that adventurous life through his writings, in such places as Iowa, Minnesota, California and Montana. Blom literally covers Nelson's amazing life from his days as a boy in northern Minnesota, how he survived the Great Depression by digging roots, shelling and pearling and fur trapping, as well as years spent trapping in the coastal mountains of California, logging, working for the U.S. Forest Service and trapping, on skis, marten in the Sierras. Blom also explores Nelson's amazing career as a widely published and respected writer whose by-line appeared regularly in major national trapping and outdoor publications, even though he had, formally, only an eighth-grade education. He also writes of Nelson's famous line of animal and fish lures, his trapping systems and philosophies that influenced today's methods and which have been widely copied and reworded ever since – as well as a listing of Nelson's books and methods, plus over 100 magazine articles that he wrote. Many direct quotes, too, from people who knew Bill Nelson personally. 6x9 format, many photographs. Softcover.
